I Carry Your Heart With Me by E. E. Cummings
I carry your heart with me (I carry it in my heart)
I am never without it (anywhere I go you go, my dear;
and whatever is done by only me is your doing, my darling)
I fear no fate (for you are my fate, my sweet)
I want no world (for beautiful you are my world, my true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is
you here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;
which grows higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart
I carry your heart (I carry it in my heart).
1. I chose this poem because I thought it was really a pretty
poem, romantic, and relateable for many people. It prompts
questions, thought, and is often times just comforting for some
to read. The metaphores and very creative and I think this
poem is very beautiful.
2. The title fits the poem perfectly. The title is repeated a few
times throughout the poem and through connecting the rest
of the poem with the beginning and end lines, it's obvious that
the author is talking about a loved one. The connection between
the middle text and the title fits well because the title is almost
acting as a summary to the poem. It's one of those "all in all.."
statements.
3. One metaphor is "Whatever a moon has meant." This influences
the poem by prompting more though and inference. No one knows
what the moon is thinking, just like sometimes people don't know
what their loved one is thinking. Sometimes love doesn't have a
reason, it's just there. Another metaphor is "The sky of a tree
called life." This influences the poem because its comparing a tree
to life. People often hear of the phrase "a family tree" which
represents generations and generations of peoples' families.
So comparing life to a tree in turn, makes perfect sense.
It makes the poem more interesting and helps peole consider
life in a new way.
4. I think the tone of the poem is more serious. It's a man
expressing his love and thoughts about his true love. This
is nothing to joke about, but not to be upset about either.
It's just someone honestly telling their true feelings and is
in a loving, yet more serious and almost frightened tone.
He doesn't want to lose is his love.

i really like that poem (which is weird cause normally i don't like e.e. cummings!) .It's really pretty
this is such a sute poem and agree that people can relate to it--especially readers that are in love. I think E.E. Cummings was a very sensuous and feminine man to have written a poem about a gooey a topic like love.
